Lisa's Story

Lisa was strongly considering abortion. When she arrived at the Fifth Ward center for her ultrasound appointment, she seemed detached. Towards the end of her ultrasound scan she glanced at the screen and said, “He looks just like his dad!” She began to cry and was now willing to share her story.  She told us that in her home country she was forced to have an abortion at the same amount of weeks as this baby. She regretted never seeing an image of the child she lost.

We were able to connect her with a counselor on staff who was also from her country, and she found comfort in knowing someone could understand her from the perpective of a culture in which she was sodeeply rooted. This was definitely a divine appointment! Our counselor encouraged her to realize that she was not at fault for the things that happened to her, that Jesus offers forgiveness, and that this child was possibly the new beginning she needed! She felt the freedom to admit that she wanted to parent and the freedom to accept Christ as her redeemer! That day she chose to parent and we offered to walk with her through the process! We connected her with a church and with all the free resources available to her through Houston Pregnancy Help Centers! God truly redeems! You, Lord, took up my case; you redeemed my life. Lamentations 3:58
