Grace's Story
Grace moved to Texas five years ago to be near her boyfriend, leaving her family behind—and not happy—in the Midwest. She works in the service industry and doesn’t have any local friends except work colleagues. When she found out she was pregnant, her boyfriend told her she needed an abortion.
She came to us scared and unaware of the laws in Texas. She didn’t know how far along she was, but she knew she did want an abortion. She spoke first with a counselor, who gave her information about her options, pregnancy, the support we can offer, and more. She then connected with one of our life coaches, with whom she could speak openly without judgment.
We performed an ultrasound, and she left with many resources and much encouragement. After a few weeks, she returned for a second visit to meet with an adoption agency and to see the baby again. During this ultrasound, she opened up about the father of her baby. She said it hurts her to hear the things he says about the baby. She couldn't understand how he hated the baby so much, but she still loved him.
During this visit, she was able to see more of the baby, and she really connected with all the little movements she could see. How could she harm someone so innocent? This was when she decided that she was going to parent and not continue with the abortion. She also decided to reach out to her mother. She had asked God to show her a sign, if that was the right thing to do, and ended up having a dream about it. In that dream, she was having a little girl! Finally, during that visit, we connected her to our Bridge to Life location, where she knew she could find every resource she would need to thrive as a parent.
Grace returned for a third ultrasound a little while later, and the baby was showing off. She even showed her mom her beautiful smile and stuck out her tongue. Grace laughed and cried happy tears that there was so much hope for this baby and for her.
