Jaycee's Story

Jaycee walked through our doors carrying the weight of more than just a pregnancy, she carried the quiet ache of broken relationships, uncertain shelter, and a fierce desire to protect the life growing within her. Young, newly unemployed, and without a place of her own, Jaycee's circumstances made abortion seem like an option, at least, that’s what those around her were telling her. But deep in her heart, she wanted something different.

At first, Jaycee had been staying with her sister, but what should have been a safe space quickly turned volatile. Verbal fights turned physical, and she knew she had to leave. With nowhere else to go, Jaycee moved in with her grandfather, only to find the house already crowded with extended family. It wasn’t the stability she needed. but it was better than chaos. She was doing her best to hold it all together.

Jaycee had more reasons to stay silent than to speak up, especially when it came to telling her parents. They were suffering severe medical issues. The news of her pregnancy, she feared, would only burden them further. “I’ll tell them when the time is right,” she said, her voice steady but emotional. “I just don’t want to hurt them.”

What hurt most deeply, though, was the shift in her relationship with her sister, the person who once helped take care of her now dismissed her decision to keep the baby. “I love her,” Jaycee said tearfully, “but I can’t let her stress me and my child. I want to fight for this baby.” Though friends and her sister pushed her toward abortion, Jaycee stood firm in her resolve. “I believe in God, and I believe He’ll make a way,” she said.

She had the support of the baby’s father, and in that, she found a small but meaningful anchor. She also found hope as she was connected to Nurse Mary for medical support and prenatal education, and encouraged to apply for Medicaid for long-term care. Reassured that she wasn’t alone, Jaycee softened. The tears that had started in uncertainty now carried traces of relief.

Before she left, I prayed with her—for provision, protection, and healing. When Jaycee stood to go, she was no longer weighed down. She was smiling, filled with fresh joy and the kind of faith that only comes through trial. “I believe God will provide everything I need,” she said with conviction.

Jaycee's journey is not without hardship, but it is marked by courage. Her love for her unborn child, her desire to protect her peace, and her faith in God are lighting her path forward. She left not just determined, but empowered. To God be the glory for all He has done, and all that’s still to come.
