About Houston Pregnancy Help Center
Anticipating Miracles Daily
Through free medical services, counseling, and essential resources, Houston Pregnancy Help Center provides women with real choices and the confidence to choose life. Our hope is that together we can continue offering hope, saving lives, and making a lasting impact in our community. Together, we anticipate miracles daily.

Mission
Houston Pregnancy Help Centers provide practical and compassionate support to women in unplanned pregnancy situations. We present life-affirming alternatives to the tragedy of abortion while respecting a woman’s decision without ridicule or rejection. We share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, in both word and deed, as the Holy Spirit presents the opportunity.
Vision
Our vision at Houston Pregnancy Help Center is to equip and encourage Christian volunteers to bring the message of life, hope, compassion, and love to women residing in Houston’s urban communities who may be experiencing a crisis or unplanned pregnancy.

History
In the Beginning
Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16

For years, Houston’s Fifth Ward lacked a life-affirming alternative for women facing unplanned pregnancies. Instead, a culture of despair took root, with the nearest crisis pregnancy resources far beyond the reach of many residents. Most pregnancy centers were located in suburban areas, while the closest urban option sat in Houston’s central business district, miles away and requiring at least three bus transfers for women relying on public transportation.

Recognizing this urgent need, Sylvia B. Johnson envisioned a crisis pregnancy center in the heart of the Fifth Ward. A group of Christian men in Houston shared her conviction and joined forces to bring this vision to life. Their mission was clear: to provide compassionate, life-affirming support where it was needed most: just one mile from an abortion clinic that had long been the community’s only accessible option.

In December 2004, the Fifth Ward Pregnancy Help Center opened its doors, standing as a beacon of hope and practical support for women seeking alternatives to abortion. Since then, it has remained a vital resource, ensuring that no woman in the Fifth Ward has to navigate an unplanned pregnancy without help, hope, and a real choice for life.

Expanding our Territory
Expanding our reach has always been at the heart of our mission, to meet women where they are and ensure life-affirming care is always within reach. In September 2007, the Board of the Central Pregnancy Care Center (CPCC) entrusted the Downtown Pregnancy Help Center to the Fifth Ward Pregnancy Help Center. Just 3.5 miles from the nation’s largest abortion provider, the remodeled building reopened in August 2008, offering women in crisis a life-affirming alternative where none had existed before. The staff, board, and volunteers stepped in to stand in the gap, offering not just resources but the love of Christ.

That same spirit of expansion and service continues today. In 2016, we took a bold step forward with the launch of our first Medical Mobile Van, bringing pregnancy services directly to women in need. Now, our reach has grown even further. We have established a new Heights location dedicated to case management, ensuring women receive ongoing, personalized support. Our fleet has expanded to include two mobile units, one focused on educational outreach and another providing 24/7 access to abortion pill reversal. Additionally, the opening of our Third Ward Administration Office and Resource Center strengthens our ability to serve even more women with practical assistance and unwavering compassion.

With each new location and initiative, we reaffirm our commitment: no woman should ever feel alone in her pregnancy journey. Wherever there is a need, we will go, offering hope, help, and the promise of life.
